A body has been recovered following the search for a man reported overboard from the Ambassador Cruise Line ship Ambition in the North Sea on Friday.
Police Scotland said the recovery came during a search and rescue operation carried out with partner agencies.
Formal identification has not yet taken place. The family of the man reported missing has been informed.
The circumstances remain subject to an ongoing police investigation.
The search
Police Scotland received a report at around 8.55am on Friday 21 August that a man had gone overboard from a cruise ship in the North Sea, 40 nautical miles from Anstruther in Fife.
HM Coastguard, which gave the position as roughly 36 nautical miles east of Arbroath, was alerted at about 8.35am and coordinated the response.
A Coastguard helicopter and aeroplane were sent, along with all-weather RNLI lifeboats from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, and Coastguard rescue teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews. A commercial search and rescue helicopter and nearby vessels also assisted.
Ambition was on passage from Lerwick to Dundee, returning from a cruise to Iceland, the Faroes and Shetland timed around this month’s total solar eclipse.
The ship
Ambassador said the captain reported a missing person incident on Friday morning, after it was found that a guest was not where they were expected to be.
A full search of the ship was carried out once she berthed in Dundee. Guests were initially asked to remain on board and were later cleared to disembark.
The line said it was working with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Police Scotland, and that it could not say more while the investigation was ongoing.
Ambition, a 48,200-tonne ship carrying up to 1,248 guests, sails from Dundee, Newcastle, Tilbury and other regional ports as part of Ambassador’s UK-departure programme.
