MSC Cruises has reshuffled its winter 2027/28 deployment, moving three ships and abandoning a Middle East season in the process.
The headline for British cruisers is that MSC World Asia, the newest and largest ship in the fleet, spends that winter in the southern Caribbean with fly-cruise packages from Manchester.
What has moved
MSC World Asia was due to spend the winter in the Mediterranean. She now goes to the South Caribbean instead, on seven and 14-night itineraries.
MSC World Europa was scheduled for the Middle East. She stays in the Western Mediterranean, running seven-night sailings with embarkation at Barcelona, Genoa, Civitavecchia, Messina, Valletta and Marseille.
That leaves MSC Meraviglia, who was to have worked the South Caribbean that winter and is now displaced. MSC has not said where she goes instead.
The knock-on effect is that MSC World Europa’s Middle East season no longer happens. It follows the wider retreat from the region we have seen across the industry since the conflict began.
What you can book
The southern Caribbean itineraries run from Fort-de-France in Martinique, Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe and Bridgetown in Barbados.
Ports of call include Castries, St George’s, Philipsburg, St John’s, Basseterre, Roseau and Kingstown. It is a genuinely island-heavy itinerary rather than a Florida-and-a-private-island run.
For UK readers the operative detail is that MSC is selling Fly & Cruise packages from Manchester to Bridgetown. Manchester is the only British airport named.
That is consistent with how MSC packages its flights generally. When we priced eight Mediterranean sailings across four lines, MSC offered three airports, with Manchester included and Heathrow charged as an extra.
Both revised programmes go on sale through msccruises.co.uk on 25 August. No fares have been published yet.
MSC World Asia herself is worth the attention. She carries the largest Venchi chocolate shop at sea and a British pub with its own brewery, along with the Cliffhanger, a swing ride that projects out over the side of the ship.
If you are already booked
Here the three groups are not being treated the same way.
Guests booked on MSC World Europa in the Middle East are being contacted with options that include moving to another sailing or taking a full refund.
Guests booked on MSC World Asia in the Mediterranean, or on MSC Meraviglia in the South Caribbean, are told their bookings will be updated and that they will be contacted about individual changes. A refund is not mentioned for either group.
That is a meaningful difference. If you booked Meraviglia for a South Caribbean winter, the ship you chose is no longer the ship you are getting.
If that matters to you, the thing to establish when MSC contacts you is what your cancellation position actually is, rather than accepting an updated booking by default.
The bottom line
For anyone shopping for winter sun in 2027/28, this is a straightforward improvement. The newest ship in the MSC fleet moves to a better-looking Caribbean itinerary, with a UK flight package attached.
Meraviglia is due in Southampton for summer 2028, so where she spends the preceding winter is worth watching for anyone booked on that season.
Sale opens 25 August. Until fares appear, there is no way to judge whether the new flagship carries a premium over the ship she replaces.
