The Mediterranean’s next flagship is at sea for the first time.
MSC World Asia left the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard at Saint-Nazaire on 15 July to begin her first sea trials — the final major phase before delivery, scheduled for late November.
The trials put the 215,863-ton, LNG-powered ship through her paces for real: engines, manoeuvrability, fuel efficiency and safety systems, all validated on open water rather than on paper.
MSC marked the moment with characteristic understatement, noting its new flagship had “taken to open water for the very first time”.
The countdown that matters
For British cruisers, the date to circle is 4 December, when World Asia welcomes her first guests in Barcelona.
She then settles into year-round seven-night western Mediterranean loops — Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Civitavecchia for Rome, Messina and Valletta — with boarding possible at multiple ports, which suits UK flight schedules nicely.

The bottom line
World Asia is the third of MSC’s World-class ships, and — as our look at the global orderbook set out — she is also the last of them Europe is currently due to keep. Her 2027 sister, World Atlantic, goes straight to Florida.
Which makes December’s debut worth watching. If you want to sail the newest big ship in Europe, World Asia’s first season is the window — and as of this week, she is genuinely, verifiably afloat.
Update, 15 September: World Asia has now passed her final sea trials, with delivery confirmed for 25 November and winter fares on sale.
