Holland America has put Zuiderdam’s comeback on sale. The ship emerges from her Evolution transformation on 2 April 2028 — and her first season is a European tour that runs from Rome to Reykjavík, with a summer based in Amsterdam.
“There is something especially fitting about introducing a newly transformed Zuiderdam in Europe,” said Beth Bodensteiner, Holland America’s president. The line is leaning on its Dutch roots: after opening in the Mediterranean, the ship spends May to August sailing from the Netherlands.
The season, in shape
April opens with a pair of seven-night Med open-jaws — Rome to Barcelona, then Barcelona to Lisbon via Tangier and Cádiz — before the ship works her way north.
The repositioning leg is the quiet gem for British readers: 13 nights from Lisbon to Amsterdam (16–29 April), via Porto, Bilbao and La Rochelle, then Dublin, Cork, Plymouth and St Peter Port in Guernsey. A tender call at Plymouth puts the rebuilt ship in a port that has been working hard to win exactly this trade.
From Amsterdam, the summer alternates seven- and fourteen-night Norwegian fjords runs — Nordfjord, Sognefjord, Hardangerfjord — with legs to Iceland via Shetland and the Faroes.
The British Isles get a voyage of their own: 11 nights round-trip from Amsterdam (20 June–1 July) calling at Stornoway, Belfast, Dublin and Galway, with the Cliffs of Moher from the sea.
The season’s finale is a 21-day crossing from Amsterdam to Boston on 12 August, through Iceland and Greenland — Qaqortoq and Nanortalik included.
What’s aboard the rebuilt ship
Zuiderdam is the second ship through Evolution, Holland America’s biggest fleet investment in its 153-year history — we covered the programme when her refit was announced, including the 32 purpose-built solo cabins with balconies.
The 2028 brochure adds forward-facing Bridgeview Suites, Vista Suites, a reimagined Pinnacle Suite and the Grand Dutch Café, with more promised before she sails.

£894 for a week in the fjords on a freshly rebuilt ship — £128 a night — is a genuinely sharp early-booking anchor for 2028. Open-jaw itineraries mean one-way flights, so price the pair before dismissing them.
And a pattern worth noting: Zuiderdam is the second ship this week to name Amsterdam as her 2028 summer home, days after Virgin’s Valiant Lady. Two very different lines have looked at Northern Europe demand and picked the same easily reached homeport.
The bottom line
The first sailings after a headline refit tend to sell on curiosity, and Holland America has priced them to be bought early rather than discounted late.
