Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Legend of the Seas, officially begins its European season today — and it arrives carrying a partnership with a distinctly British cause.
The line has teamed up with Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, timing the tie-up to the ship’s debut and to its headline show: the first production of the Broadway musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to be staged at sea.
Throughout Legend’s inaugural European summer, passengers will find donation opportunities and fundraising moments onboard, with proceeds supporting the charity’s specialist nurses.
For UK families, the beneficiary is closer to home than most cruise-line charity partnerships.
Roald Dahl Nurses work within NHS Trusts across the country — more than 250 of them, caring for over 50,000 seriously ill children with complex, lifelong conditions.
The nurses coordinate care that often spans multiple hospitals and specialists, and support families emotionally and practically along the way.
The charity says many more children need this specialist care than currently receive it.

To launch the partnership, which was announced ahead of National Children’s Nurses Day on 30 June, Royal Caribbean hosted a group of Roald Dahl Nurses on a four-night preview sailing before today’s official debut — a break from what the line’s EMEA managing director Gerard Nolan called their “demanding day-to-day roles”.
Nolan said the partnership felt like a natural fit with the Dahl musical headlining the ship’s entertainment.
The charity’s chief executive, Louise Griew, welcomed the tie-up, saying it would raise vital funds to support more families while spotlighting the expertise of the nursing team.
Legend of the Seas is the third of Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class ships and spends this summer sailing in Europe — the only window for UK cruisers to sail her close to home for now.
From November 2026 she repositions to Fort Lauderdale for six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries.
