Christmas morning on Saint-Barthélemy, Santa Claus at the Arctic Circle, or New Year’s Eve in the Weddell Sea ice: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has laid out its full 2026–27 festive programme across all five of its luxury and expedition ships.
For UK cruisers who fancy a very different kind of Christmas, the detail that matters is the discount clock. Several of the headline sailings carry 20–30% winter reductions that apply only to bookings made by 14 July, with no solo surcharge on a number of departures.
Christmas with actual snow: Lapland from Hamburg
The most distinctive option needs no flight at all if you can get yourself to Hamburg.
The expedition ship HANSEATIC nature sails a 16-day Christmas and New Year roundtrip (20 December to 5 January, from €9,490 per person) deep into the frozen Gulf of Bothnia — Kemi at the top of the Baltic, snowshoe hikes, dog-sled rides, and a visit to Santa’s hometown of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle.
There are Northern Lights with luck, and New Year’s Eve is spent on deck watching the fireworks over Stockholm’s old town. It is one of the line’s designated family sailings, with a dedicated programme for 10-to-17-year-olds.
For a gentler taste, the same ship runs a ten-day “hygge” Advent cruise through the Baltic’s Christmas markets (10–20 December, from €5,490).
Caribbean sun for the price of a Med summer
The value surprise sits in the Caribbean.
MS EUROPA’s 15-day Advent positioning cruise from New York to Miami via Saint-Barthélemy, Dominica, St Lucia, Bonaire, Curaçao and Jamaica is carrying a 30% reduction — from €3,843 per person (roughly £3,300 at current rates) if booked by 14 July. That is a remarkable entry point for a five-star all-suite ship over two weeks.
The main event follows: 17 days over Christmas and New Year from Miami, with Christmas Eve on Saint-Barthélemy and New Year’s Eve off Bridgetown, Barbados, from €7,752 with the same 14 July deadline.
Over on EUROPA 2, Advent means the Indian Ocean: Mauritius to the Seychelles via Réunion, Madagascar, Zanzibar and Mombasa, currently from €8,662.
The big one: New Year in Antarctica
At the expedition end, HANSEATIC inspiration spends Christmas and New Year on a 22-day Weddell Sea intensive from Ushuaia (from €20,990 including charter flights), taking in the Falklands and South Georgia.
The more remarkable routing, though, is HANSEATIC spirit’s “Cape to Cape”: Cape Town to Ushuaia over Christmas and New Year via Tristan da Cunha — the most remote inhabited settlement on Earth — South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula, currently from €12,792 (around £10,900) with the 20% reduction to 14 July.
Interestingly, it crosses the Drake Passage the old-fashioned way — the very crossing Silversea’s new fly-cruise programme is built to avoid. One line sells skipping the Drake; the other sells earning it.
What UK cruisers should know
The usual Hapag-Lloyd caveats apply, and they are worth stating plainly. This is a German-market line: pricing is in euros, most fares exclude flights (the Antarctica sailings include charter legs), and the accompanied shore programmes are conducted in German — though EUROPA 2 positions itself as the fleet’s bilingual German-English ship.
None of that has stopped a steady trickle of British cruisers discovering the line’s exceptional hardware and tiny passenger counts.
Solo travellers should look closely: several of these festive departures carry no single supplement at all in the relevant categories, which is almost unheard of over Christmas and New Year.
The bottom line
Festive-season cruises usually command the year’s premium pricing, which is what makes this window unusual: 20–30% off Christmas sailings, booked five months out, with solo-friendly terms.
If a German-speaking ship doesn’t faze you, the Advent Caribbean crossing at around £3,300 for 15 nights and the Cape-to-Cape Antarctica adventure are two of the more interesting festive-cruise propositions on sale anywhere right now.
But the reductions end on 14 July — and Hapag-Lloyd’s allotments are, like its ships, small.
