Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is adding a new string to its on-board programme: a series of world-music voyages on MS EUROPA, curated like a travelling festival and tied to the destinations each cruise visits.
The line has announced four special-format cruises for 2026 and 2027, with artists performing the musical culture of the countries on the itinerary in the ship’s intimate venues.
The concept
Rather than the usual show-lounge entertainment, the idea is a curated line-up of international performers — drawn from pop, chanson, jazz and world music — playing stripped-back sets in a small-ship setting that holds a maximum of 400 guests.
The first sailings
An Adriatic cruise in September 2026 (Palma to Venice, via Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily and the Croatian coast) opens the series, with Croatian singer-songwriter Marcela — who describes her style as “pop in a leather jacket” — Italian artist FLO, the Catalan duo Paula Grande and Vic Moliner, and jazz and blues musician Katarina Pejak.
A November 2026 sailing along the Spanish and Portuguese coast follows, with further voyages down the Pacific coast of the Americas in early 2027 and around the Canary Islands later that year.
Why it matters for UK cruisers
As with the rest of Hapag-Lloyd’s programme, these are euro-priced, largely German-market sailings — the Adriatic cruise starts from €4,790 per person — so it is more industry signal than UK booking tip.
And the signal is clear: at the luxury end, onboard entertainment is increasingly about curated, destination-linked culture rather than West End-style spectacle — a contrast worth watching as mainstream lines double down on big production shows.
